Powerline is back!

Hey everyone! We're excited to announce that Powerline Conference Calls is back in action this Sunday night at 9:30 with guest speaker Darrell Lee Stetler II. For those of you who have never called in to listen, Powerline is a basic conference call system that allows anyone to call a Long Distance US number (218-895-0167) and enter a passcode (P-O-W-E-R). This will automatically place you on the conference and you will be able to hear the special speaker as well as those who will interact with him. Participation is strictly optional (most people simply call in an listen) but is encouraged. The call lasts from 9:30 PM - 9:50 PM with the speaker speaking for 15 min and teens interacting with questions for 5 min. This call is beneficial to all but it's primary focus is juniors and seniors in high school who may not have a lot of good church connections. And so if this call is not for you, you might know someone who might really need this! Why I am a Christian - David Duncombe

The world expects us to be a Christian because we have faith, but that is only part of the equation. If being a Christian only helps you, but is not absolutely true, you'd have no reason to share it.

I. We have historical evidence that Jesus is God.

A. He preformed miracles.

B. He claimed to be God.

C. He rose from the dead-if He claimed to rise from the dead, we have reason to believe we will also rise from the dead.

D. The Old Testament predicted His coming.

E. Hundreds of people saw Jesus after he rose from the dead.

II. God wants to reveal Himself.

A. The Islam leader claimed to be a prophet, died, and is buried. But God did miracles and rose from the dead.

B. Buddhism had a vision, but why should we believe Buddha? We don't have any historical proof his ideas are true.

Q&A

1. What do we do if someone asks us a question and we have no idea of the answer?

A. If you don't know, just say you don't know. Let them know it's OK to need answers for their questions. Find out the answer and get back to them. If someone gets saved after they ask the hard questions will really stick; they won't fall away when their emotions fade.

2. Is there ever a point when reason doesn't work with helping someone become a Christian.

A. We have to remember that we are God's creation. God is so much deeper then we are, and there are many things about God that will just blow our minds. There is a certain awe about God that will blow our minds, but will also make us worship Him. Point out that these things don't disbelieve Him, they make me realize how awesome He is.

3. How important is it to have a relationship with someone before you try to share Christ?

A. The relationship is very important. In any type of evangelism. The ones that have a relationship are the ones that really stick. Church evangelism is the greatest way to convert people.

Josh and Jodi Emory - Why Our Kids will Serve God

Luke 18:16 We have such a huge responsibility in raising our kids and a huge part of that is training and discipline.

1. Training and Discipline

If our kids can't obey us they won't be able to obey God.

Children learn not to pick up wasps by picking up wasps. Parents are examples for children so the kids don't have to fail every time they do something.

If we're praying and reading our Bible it will influence our kids

3 Serving others

It's easy to forget to serve your family.

They may not be able to tithe for a while but they will see if we do it.

God has given them talents for specific reasons. They're from God and it's important to teach kids not to boast about their talents.

Involve your children and let them use their talents.

6. Family Devotions and Church

Our children should see that Christ comes first.

7. What They Watch

A lot of movies and such don't teach us about Christ.

*Kids are our responsibility. We need to get personal and not be afraid to teach them Godly principles.

Q. What's something to really avoid when raising kids?

A. If you're not consistant with discipline it will just be a hassel. So whatever you do just be consistent.

Q. What are some things you do to discipline.

A. One thing I do in training is set the bowl of baby food on their tray and don't let them bump it off.

Preparing for Motherhood - Dorcas Hallam

Have a grateful and contented-with-life spirit.

Circumstances may be hard, but you can have a grateful spirit.

Don't always be looking to the next step. That's a big reason why people become ungrateful.

Contentedness does not come from our surroundings but our heart.

We should teach our children to help instead of always needing help.

The attitude is key.

Do you get behind what your boyfriend is doing? Do you think he is a great person, or do you really support him?

Don't try to force a relationship if you're not excited with where you're going.

Love the church and the church leaders and constantly praise them.

Make sure you know your children's hearts and desires. Help them to get involved in ministry.

Be organized and be flexible.

Questions to ask yourself:

Do I talk about problems people have more then their ideas?

Do I complain regularly about my food?

Am I high maintenance?

Do I laugh at people behind their backs?

Does your employer say you do an excellent job?

Do you cut corners?

Do you break the little rules because you think you know better?

Q. How can you be passionate for whatever your future husband is passionate about?

A. Your husband and you are going to match. Your boyfriend may want great things, but your passions need to match.

Q. What are some things you should look for in a guy both negative and positive?

A. Beyond praying and reeding their Bible, pick someone that doesn't feel superior over others. Then, they will raise them to be servants.

Rev. Edsel Trouten - Finding God's Will

1. If there's an open door for you walk through it.

2. Opening doors is God's business, our job is to walk.

3. Accept the council of your spiritual advisors.

Q&A

Q. What if there are two doors that both look like they would be good? Is there something we can do to see which way we should lean?

A. Pray for God to close one door. Also, use common sense. If you can't sing you probably shouldn't go into music ministry.

Q. What about things like relationships and careers? Do the same principles apply?

A. In relationships, the believer must be yielded to God. Before any heart is wrapped around another, you mush come to the place where your emotions do not enter in and you can look at things objectively. Ask yourself if they will better your ministry.

In careers, we can specialize too quickly. I think it's good to come to education objectively. Pick a broad vocation and pick from that while listening to your advisors.

Q. What if everybody's telling you not to, but you feel it's of God?

A. Sometimes God wants you to do something, but the Godly people aren't understanding. Maybe it's something God wants you to do, but by listening to those around you, you will be able to fulfill God's long-term goal for your life.

Philip Brown - Developing a Proper Fear of God

I. A real fear that leads to obedience.

Most people emphasize a reverent awe of God, but that reverent awe is actually secondary, not primary. Exodus 20:20; Deuteronomy 5:24, 28, 29;

God wants us to recognize the awesomeness, the certainty of his judgement.

II. An awesome reverence that leads to worship.

Psalm 22:23 When we see how awesome God is, it moves us to praise Him.

III. How to acquire this fear.

Either you don't understand who God is or you don't have a conscience awareness of God's presence in your life. Every time God spoke to people, they had fear. What God is looking at is, are you obeying me? are you loving me?

1. Jeremiah 32:39-40 It is implanted by asking God.

2. Deuteronomy 13:19 It is learned by studying His word.

3. Psalm 34:11 It is taught.

4. Proverbs 1 It is chosen. You cannot have it unless you want it.

5. Proverbs 2:5 It's sought.

Q. What's the best way to describe the fear of the Lord to a child?

A. I use an illustration of an interstate cop. When someone sees a cop, he suddenly experience fear, so he slows down to see if he's doing right. When we become aware of God's presence, it makes us check to see if we are doing right.

Q. What if you have had a violent parent. How do you have a proper fear of God?

A. A lot of people have thought if you had a bad dad you can't have a proper fear of God. I don't agree with this. However, if someone has had a bad father, they have to come to scripture and see what God says about them. It says He loves them and has invested His son in them.
